Figured since the 70-221 forum is a ghost town I'll post here instead. I'm looking for a couple good books for this exam, but I'm having a hard time finding anything decent. All the books on Amazon received poor reviews, so I'm kind of reluctant to buy one. For those that have passed this exam what materials did you use? I've got the Transcenders for this exam, but thats about it.

Thanks

jejej hello friend. is right, 221 is a ghost town! only jeff is around this town.... you and me....... aaaaajjjjjjjja......... but definitely i change back to 70219 due to complexity of the 221 exam. i know very good the network infra design objetives, but i see the trascender questions and need 1 week for brain refresh..... come one! this exam is super tough...... the more tough on the entire track.........

see this link about electives:

"In fact, 70-221 has the reputation of being among the most difficult exams in the entire Windows 2000 certification collection"

Why don you make your life easy, take 219 insted or 220
Slinky

I've already taken 70-219, so this will be my last test for the MCSE. I figured since 70-221 is the designing aspect of 70-216, it would be wise to go that route. I don't think I'll have any problems passing it if I find a couple of good books to brush up with.

I'm not too worried. I've made it through 6 exams without failing one *knock* *knock*, and I'm not going to let this one get the best of me.

Your starting to scare with how difficult you say this exam is, Alex. jajaja. Are there still 4 case studies and about 40-45 questions? Congrats on the pass.

BTW, what are you taking next? 70-222 or 70-224? You are brave if you're going to take 224.

There is a section of the Reskit in the :

Windows 2000 Server Internetworking Guide

This covers all the objectives, I used this and the Examcram book, plus test engines I have discussed previously.

Thanks Jeff. That book was one of my best friends in prep for 70-216 next to the TCP/IP Core Networking Guide.

Hey Slinky, I'm taking this one also, probably end of this month.

Have seen 'SPID' comments that might suggest it's not too difficult. So I 'll probably give it a shot.

Now I'm @ trancenders Exam A. Still need some 'brushing' up to do
Probably tried out some free Demo exams menctioned by 'Jeff'.

Best of luck to all who attempt this one. Pay special attention to the topics of interoperability with SNA, UNIX and MAC.

If you were able to handle 216, you can handle 221 (imho). Like I've said before, some of the questions are simple. For example, the case study info might state that redundancy is a requirement for all servers with respect to the new infrastructure design and you'll get a question that states what is the minimum number of DNS servers needed. Hmmm....2 might be a good choice.

But other questions are quite challenging/time consumming, like the one drag and drop I got with respect to allocating addresses for hosts in 2 buildings with redundant DHCP servers by placing the correct Superscore ranges for the 2 DHCP servers observing the 70/30 rule.

The hardest thing for me on the exam was trying to stay focused while reading the case study info so I could got down all the info I thought was important prior to answering the questions. After the second case study, that method wasn't flying too well for me, because I was writing down almost everything, so I just skimmed over the last two cases, and got a general feel for what they were trying to accomplish. But I wound up having to keep going back to the case info and finding that little tidbit of info to help answer the question. The latter was more of a pain, but it worked better for me.

Skim and go back and forth worked best for me as well. There are some points that stand out during the initial reading, but you won't neccessarily know what info you need until you get to the questions. The initial skim gives you a feel for where the info is when you have to refer back to the case.
Slinky

For this exam, I'm thinking about reading the questions first, and then going back to the case study. That way you know what they're asking for, and it should be easier to pick out the information. I still haven't figured out a decent way even after 70-219, so design exams are still a learning experience, even with Transcenders.

yes... in the exam i need to go back several times... check the exhibit... check the case study...... check the proposals, back to interviews, etc.....

i see the 70222 is a mix between design exam (have case studies) and have a section as standard exam !!!

Like we talk before, why dont you go for the 214, i think the security stuff is better than the migration exam. its more upto date.

there are good books for it also.

Good luck.

70222 is a mixed enviroment.
You have case studies and a portion of an exam (25%) is a regular exam.

and we need 687 to pass the exam... is not easy!!!

For MCSA I think MS accepts N+, but for MCSE you need 216.

for MCSA the 216 is required too.
You can rollout the 216 if you have A+ and N+ or A+ and iNET
winterwolf

216 isn't required for MCSA, 218 is, then any number of electives. Including A+ and Server+ or N+. (I know cause I am mcsa but haven't writen 216 yet)
