1 week to the Beast

| Hi everybody,
I have 8 days left before I go to face The Beast.
What do you reckon I should spend my last week concentrating on?
thanks | |

| Start with the exam description from the Microsoft website. It has a list of topics that are going to be covered on the exam. Check each of them off if you are comfortable, or drill down with some in depth study on the topics you are not comfortable with.
One of the other most important things is to step through any configuration of the various services and carefully examine the various dialogue boxes throughout. Best of luck!!!

| Thanks Jeff,
Its good to be able to ask others for their opinion or about their experiences, very comforting when facing an exam.
I am going through all the topics at the moment hopefully I will get it all into my head by Friday.
Thanks | |

| Just continue to review your material as you have done so in the past. On the eve of your test take the day off and just relax; do something else other than studying. Get plenty of rest the night before and go slay that beast! Good luck. | |

| Hey Jeff,
How is the Exchange revision going? I may have to put mine off a few months as the CCNA takes precedence at the moment.
Best of Luck to Lady Jessica for the exam, I found this to be easier than 219 if thats any help!

| Exchange is progressing well. I have finished my rudimentary examination of 5.5. I have also put a little test lab up, under my desk at work, so I'll be able to plug away a bit early in the morning, over lunch and after work. I'm a couple of chapters into a couple of books on 2k.
I am really excited about having a lab at hand. I have been away from home for the workweek, since late October. When I come home on the weekend, there's more important things to attend to, beyond playing in the lab, so I have not had much time to work hands-on.

| I passed The Beast today!
It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be...
There was ructions in the test centre though, the exams wouldn't load and there was a long delay in getting them going.. Also in one question where you had to look the properties of a RAS policy, the exhibit was blank so I had to Mystic Meg my way to an answer...

| Lady jess, why dont you do the 70-218 first, so you can get another cert, then kick 217 butt.????
well thats my advice.

| thanks everyone..
I am doing the 217 next, luckily for me my job pays for the MOC courses and for me to do the exams, and thats what they say is next!
Whats the story with 218, is it very similar to the 216? I'll probably be able to do that one straight after the 217.

Funny you say that, I was just wondering what ratio of males:females are mcse?
every course I do or every time I go to an exam centre, I am usually the only female there...
| Sexy Lexy 2003-02-09, 4:10 pm |
| The only other female I have ever encountered was a young lady who passed the CCNP switching exam last year at the same time I sat 216.
I imagine that the ratio is pretty low as much as 1:50 if not lower, which is a shame.
Best of luck on 217.

| Thanks Sexy Lexy! Im sure I will be asking you all for advice on the 217!
I was just wondering also, what books are people using for the beast? I know i have the exam but I wouldn't mind getting a reference style book on the topics covered, one that goes into more detail than the exam.. Any suggestions?

| I used the MSPress book as a rough guide but I didn't think that it went deep enough into the concepts.
For an understanding of the key areas something that will help you no end, is to set up a practice Windows 2000 server environment and go through the labs in the book, the hands on experience will be invaluable for the exam as well as the real world.
From what I understand, the RRAS was hit pretty hard in other peoples exams, but I only had two questions on the subject.
If you are uncertain of any subject then search the Microsoft web site as they have a pretty good help section.
This should get you started:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows200.../en/server/help
Networking in the left hand pane will prove useful.
Good luck.

| Thanks a lot.. I have access to a couple of win2k server machines networked at home, plus the lab in work so I can have a mess around if i ever want to check anything out.
I got a good couple of RRAS questions myself, and the usual loads on DNS and DHCP...
Thankfully there were only a couple of subnetting ones, that was my worry
