I have worked for 6 years as system administrator in a small company (mostly redhat and debian servers). Last year when I saw Windows Server 2003 beta versions coming out, and my supervisor told me that we are going to migrate some of our redhat servers to microsoft servers, i decided to get mcsa and mcse. Before that i had almost nothing to do with windows 2000. (I only once installed a Win2000 pro). I started with sybex CIW books, which gave me good grounding in networking.

I took windows 2000 pro exam in the middle of september. Two weeks later the server exam. Then I had to make a break (I am finishing a university. I am going to be a lawyer )
And then I started agressivly learn 70-216. After two weeks of hardcore in-depth learning (Sybex and mspress books) I finally took the exam and killed The Beast in 130 min.
Before the exam I was very worried, because I thought that there would not be enough time. I'm lucky not having english for my native language. So I got 30 min bonus. I had 210 min to complete. After 20 questions I had spent only 45 min.

The questions were mostly RRAS and routing, some DHCP and DNS. No subnetting questions (my weakest). Also 16 blue border questions.
I would say it was not so hard at all. You just have to calm down and read and think what you read. For example I had a question where there was a long legend and two exhibits which showed the positions for server A and server B, and I was asked to configure setting on server A. I had to choose from four answers, from which three started with: "On server B change...". So it was too obvious.

Now I'm headed to 70-218 which is the last one in my mcsa win2000 track. Then I'll upgrade to mcsa win2003 and continue towards mcse win2000 and 2003.

I wish you luck killing Your beast
