Hello - first off, GREAT site here!!!
I have been reading for several days and I thought I would ask a couple questions today.
I have already passed the 70-210 and 215 test. I took the 70-216 test on Friday and failed. However, I felt comfortable with the test and I not really sure where I messed up. I am going for my MCSA cert right now and I plan to get my MCSE later this year. Since I have already passed the 210 and 215, I will have o take the 218 test and 1 elective.
Should I continue with the 216 or take a less difficult test now? I am needing to get a cert quick sine there will be some job opening within my corp. within the next month. I feel that a cert might give me a slight edge.
Thank you for your replies...

Welcome to the forum edwelly!

Well, you're going to have to take 2 exams to get the MCSA anyway, so I would focus on hitting the areas you were having difficulty with on the 70-216 exam and take it again. You going to need 216 anyway to get your MCSE.

I just don't see why you'd start studying from scratch to take an "easier" elective. The 216 is definitely passible and you are not the first person to miss on the first go around. I would not let it get to you or sway your decision.

You already have got a good amount of studying under your belt for the 70-216. I honestly think that it would be "easier" to focus in on the areas your struggling with and take this one again.

Here's the link I posted when I passed. Hopefully some of the info. and links to some of the White Papers and Technet articles will help you out.

Definitely go for the 216. As stated, it is required for MCSE, but just contains valuable info to know. I've heard that compared to 216, 218 is a breeze. I'm hoping that is the case. And don't forget about A+ and Net+. They can serve as elective replacements for the MCSA. I felt the 2 A+ exams were much more difficult than any MS test I have taken. Adaptive tests are killers!

Spid - thank you SO much for replying so quickly -
My problem with the 70-216 test is that I thought I did descent on the test. I wasn't overly suprised that I failed (it's not called the beast for nothing) but now I am unsure what I nned to study. Again, I "thought" I did well well, so I can't say that I need to study up on DNS, DHCP or RRAS...
Any other ideas...

mulan - I am praying the the 70-218 test is a breeze - I sure could use a break after the 70-216 test -
I do not think the test was "extremely" difficult, I just do not know what parts I missed -

ok, another questiuon then since I am taking the 70-216 again - should I take the 70-218 test first or the 70-216 test?
hope I do not come accross as a bother, it's just nice to find people who REALLY understand what I am going thru...

edwelly, I took 210, 215, 217, then 216. I got sidetracked with my test-taking, so it is taking me a little longer to review for 218. But what I'm reviewing seems to be an overview of the core-four. It is also much more difficult for me because I started this quest with almost no computer background. This is a career change for me, and learning gets more difficult as you get older.

Preparing for and taking the 218 might not be a bad route to go. The test is pretty straight-forward and fair (IMHO). The questions can be quite wordy at times and focus around the something isn't working right or there is a problem, how do you fix it theme.

I went 210, 215, 218, 216. I'm preparing for 221 currently and will finish up with 217.

Maybe from a confidence standpoint, taking and passing 218 will help you, but it will touch on subject matter from all of the 4 cores, including 216 material, with more emphasis on DNS than any of the other 216 related topics.(Again IMHO).

If you don't mind me asking, what materials did you use to prepare for the 216 exam? Do you have a home lab setup? Hands-on helps tremendously with these exams, especially the 216.

Don't ever feel like you are being a bother. Ask all the questions you need to ask. There are many members on this site in addition to myself that will gladly answer any question you have to the best of their ability.

I still feel the 218/216 combo is the way to go. Which order you take them is really up to you and your comfort level and time constraints. I think a month and a half to two months is realistic, possibly shorter depending on your experience, etc...

Hope this helps.

As far as study material - I have taken the 2150, 2151, 2153 and 2154 classes and the MOC books- please I have reading material (Exam Cram, etc.) several PDF forms. I have W2k Server installed at the home.
Can you suggest ANYTHING else I should take a look at?
and thank you...

Since september I've taken the exams in the following order. 210, 215, 217, 218, 216, 228, 229 and next finally 221 for mcse w2k. After that, time for CCA, then CCNA. What fun. What money. Hope its all worth it in the end since I've paid for all the exams out of my own pocket.

Best of luck

Other than a good test prep software package, like Transcenders (http://www.transcender.com) or Examsimulators (http://www.examsimulators.com), you sound like you have all the material you need.
