First off I would like to thank everyone for their advice on the 216. I don’t post often, but always stop by to check out the latest comments

I passed the 216, but not before the following happened:

1) the test program crashed
2) the test program crashed again
3) one critical RRAS question screen shot was blank (very nice touch :] talk about a difficult question!)
4) I lost 30 minutes of exam time while the staff tried to fix things

I have heard of this happening at other testing sites. I think that MS is using a slightly newer exam format (or at least one that differs from the 210, 215, 219).

I just want to give a heads up to anyone getting ready to go test, you might want to call ahead and see if they have been having problems at the site. The 216 is hard enough by itself and all of the above errors did not help my concentration.

Also, for whatever reason the exam loved RRAS a little more than I thought it would. I must have gotten a little under 30 questions of the 57 on RRAS. The remainders were mostly DNS, DHCP and a few WINS, IPSEC, NAT.

If anyone is having trouble with DNS & DHCP I found that the Syngress book did an awesome job of explaining each in great detail.

Best of luck to everyone on their exams!

Great job!!! I think that the bugs are actually part of the exam. You passed!!!

Just kidding! Apparently the new exam is putting a strain on test centers aging equipment?

Thanks jeff!

Yeah, I think that the equipment might have been a bit old. The 11" monitor that was curved like a globe didn't help much either

Other posts on this board have indicated that Microsoft is cuurently requiring some upgrades for this exam. Also noteworthy is that MS has contracted out exam development to an outside firm. Expect more changes, faster.

Well done on your pass!!

That is what I had suspected and might explain quite a lot. I heard that the CompTIA guy now heads up things for MS certs.

The 'drag and drop' were not done in popup windows as I had done them before. Instead the 800x600 monitor was broken into 3 frames (top frame, bottom right and left) where the bottom left frame contained the items and the right the target areas.

It was doable, but I was frustrated at the space that was allowed. I guess working @ 1600x1200 has skewed my perception

Great pass, now what is next? 217 or 218?

Hey luisjo and Spid,

Thanks for the kind words

I have completed the 217 already, so it will be off to the 218 and 219 next. I have been studying for the 218 the last couple of nights and it does a great job of tying together a lot of the information from prior exams.

After those it will be on to the 228 & 229 to finish up the MCSE and start into the MCDBA. Then the .NET upgrade exams… RHCE…

I guess it never really ends huh? Thank goodness my girlfriend studies so much for school, otherwise I might find myself kicked to the curb

if she supports you, shes worth it, also she has to be smart, every minute she lets you study is like a dollar on the bank, she will benefit also, if you earn more you spend more on her, not only on her but on things that are for both of you.

Good luck on the 228 and 229, im thinking of taking the same exams, can you help me, what test do i have to take for the .net upgrade?

Hey luisjo,

She is a wonderful girl

Regarding the .NET certifications I have not heard exactly what will be happening, but MS has said that they will offer an 'upgrade' exam for W2K MCSEs, much like they did for the NT 4.0 one.

I do a lot of legacy data conversion at the software company where I work, so the 228/229 seems like a natural fit I might as well get some credit for spending a good part of my time in SQL Enterprise Manager playing with data.

Good luck with exams!!!

MyoTechie

I took that test earlier this week and had issues with the 70-216 exam.

It is definitely a new format exam in some respects, where the questions had you configure rip filters and DNS bindings. The test was extremely difficult and I was very fortunate to pass it.

While I was reviewing my answers the exam terminated at question 15 and it took them 20 minutes to get the test set so I could continue. I lost this time for reviewing so if I failed the exam I would have been sooo heated.

Be prepared for this exam!!!

question, can you explain a little more in depth what do you mean with the questions or rip and dns?

thanks

About 5 to 10 questions were obviously new. The format was like you were actually on the server configuring the DHCP service or the DNS. There were also quite a few subnetting questions ( 3-4 ) that came in this format and you had to statically configure a network client's IP, subnet mask, gateway, and primary & secondary DNS based on the exibit.

Normally this wouldnt be so bad but you had to use the correct subnet mask ( IE... 176.132.12.0/24). I didnt completely know subnetting as well as I would have liked. So you had better know hop to fill in IP filters, configure DHCP superscope, DNS binding from 2000 to lets say 'UNIX', RIP ver2, and WINS configuration.

The person that orginally started this thread had most of the stuff that you needed to focus on for the test. The one thing that he left out was CAs, know this cold or it could give you some problems.
