Nslookup is a cli utility that allows you to test & query your DNS server's zone databases. It works in 2 modes: interactive and command. Command mode is used when you only want to do a single query. Once the query is executed, you are returned to the cli prompt. Interactive mode is for multiple queries, which returns you to the interactive prompt after each query.

When you do an nslookup, be aware that the most likely reason that you might receive a "non-authoritative" answer to a query is because your DNS server is answering from cache.

To get a full list of nslookup commands and their sytax, type at the cli prompt: nslookup or nslookup ?

I hope this helps, if not, then could someone else please have a go.
