| What happens when you connect a 4mbps station in a 16mbps token ring network. Does it crash the network? | |

| The whole network will burst into flames.
I honestly don't have a clue, just wanted to throw out that unhelpful answer.

I worked at a place using Token Ring topology. I had a problem gettting this PC to hit the network one day. Turned out I went into the BIOS of the NIC card and change it from 4mbps to 16mbps. PC booted fine and connected to the network.

| If you insert a token-ring 4MB workstation into a 16MB network, the network will come to a crawl. (Assuming that the workstation is able to insert into the ring in the first place)
I'm not so certain the ring would crash but it would slow considerably.
When troubleshooting a token-ring network that's slow, one of the first things to check is, if a NIC has been recently installed, to check the speed the NIC is configured for.

| Hey spid, Is that Dexter on your profile?
I love watching him with my son!
I used to have his sound theme on my laptop:
Click something wrong and you get "What exactly is it that you think that you are doingga!"
