| This book is quite good, however I advise to look at Microsoft Study Guide for 70-216 as well as Sybex book on that subject. I'm studying for 70-216 myself and I'm using all of those books. | |

MCSE Windows 2000 Network Administration Study Guide (Exam 70-216)
ISBN: 0072123834
Good? bad?
Overall, a pretty good study guide. I used it together with the LearnKey CD ROM MCSE Training Series for the 70-216, and I passed on the first attempt, so I guess I can give it a favorable rating. I am always a little reluctant to recommend anything when I don't have anything else to compare it with.
The only gripes I had at the time, are some of the sections could have been a little better written, and the chapter on Certificate Services was somewhat weak, but all in all, it was a pretty good comprehensive study guide. Let me mention, that I also used the 70-221 study guide by the same authors and a lot of supplemental reading from the Microsoft KB and Microsoft Technet articles that are still readily available online during preparation for the 70-216 exam.
I also want to stress that no one study guide alone will be enough to get you through the 70-216 exam. You should use at least two of them, or at the very least, supplement with lots of other available online reading. You should reference and bookmark the links I posted on two other current threads in this forum for very excellent supplemental preparation resources.
Also, the 70-221 material I studied extensively covered firewalls, round-robin, DHCP 50/50 and 80/20 rules, etc. that just happened to show up, to my surprise, on my 70-216 exam. So, to say the least, I was extremely pleased with myself that I had covered that material.
Finally, to properly prepare for the 70-216 exam, more than any of the other exams in the MCSE certification path, will require that you get plenty of hands on practice and experience. There is just simply too many different combinations of configurations for anyone to have to remember without developing the experience that comes only through extensive hands on practice. Skimp on the hands on practice while preparing for this exam, and you will not be skimping on the hands on practice the second time you have to prepare to take this exam! They don't call it the beast for nothing! It's a real mother!
Good luck and may the force be with you! | |

| BootData - I used the first edit. of that book and found it to be okay. I coupled it with the 216 TestOut module and the 216 for Dummies book. I like the Dummies book for breaking some stuff down to the basics. |
