you need dns for your AD.
DNS is used on Win2k for EVERYTHING, since locate machines, services, everything.
A dns cab be configured before ad implementation or togheter with dcpromo, in the middle of the installation the active directory wizard try to locate DNS and if is not founded, he try to install and configure automatically. | |

| DNS and AD are like Sonny and Cher dude. 
Although I do have DNS implemented without AD. I have an NT 4 domain. | |
