Please help me with this.

Playing around with ICS and I can't get it working.

Configuration PC1
LAN and modem installed with working internet.
ICS and Demand Dial settings configured. (IP address now auto-set to 192.168.0.1)
Seems easy enough.

PC2
Nothing seems to be mentioned (on MS sites also) about how to configure the 2nd PC.
If I enable IP address to be auto configured then it ends up with an IP address of 169.254.x.x which means it can't connect to PC1. So I try set up with static address of 192.168.0.2 so it can see PC1. Also set up PC1 as default gateway (and left that step out to but no different also) and set up new connection to access internet through LAN with no Proxy setting etc (as per MS web site and help)...but It will not dial up the other PC or even if already connected it will not connect to the net.

I am confused..Anyone know what I am doing wrong?
Cheers.

Quick post:

1. ICS sucks
2. Turn off all DHCP and DNS servers in your network
3. Set up PC2 as a DHCP client
4. Make sure that there is no router between the ICS host and the client box

hehe. I agree with point number 1. As for the others, yep none of that applies. Started off with using Server in a domain environment (at home - 2 pcs) but with no luck, just am using 2 x Professional in a WORKGROUP just to get it started. Thought this would be the most simple config. But to no avail.

actually, that is about on par with the reality of this technology -- if you can call it that -- which is that it rarely works on the first try... It is a pain in the butt, that you only need to be familiar with for the tests, but thank god in the real world you will never deploy it!

When in doubt, refer to point #1

Run ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew on PC2.

LOL

Although technically, ICS uses NAT. It just uses NAT in a bad way
