And today's poser is ....

Q22. Your network contains two routed subnets: Subnet A and Subnet B. Subnet B contains a Windows 2000 server configured as a DHCP server. This server has scopes created for both Subnet A and Subnet B. Subnet A does not contain a DHCP server.

The clients on Subnet A are not receiving IP addresses from the DHCP server. What can you do to enable clients in Subnet A to receive dynamically assigned IP addresses? (Choose all that apply)

A. Create a superscope on the DHCP server in Subnet B which contains both the scope for Subnet A and the scope for Subnet B.

B. Install and configure a DHCP server on Subnet A.

C. Configure the clients on Subnet A to use H-node NetBIOS name resolution.

D. Configure a DHCP relay agent on Subnet A to forward DHCP messages to Subnet B.

E. Configure an rfc 1542-compliant router to forward BOOTP messaging between subnets.

F. Configure an rfc 1560-compliant router to pass all UDP traffic on ports 2151, 2152, 2153 and 2154.

Good Luck .... see you tomorrow for the answer!!

It must be 'D' -Relay Agent on Subnet A,

And 'E'

If it don't have relay agent, but it must have 'E'-RFC 1542 compliant Router to do the job.

Definitely B, D, and E.

B - bit excessive.
D - viable but needs to be on a server.
E - probably the easiest option.

All these will do the job.

Correct Answer: B, D and E

If you require the DHCP service to support additional subnets on your routed network, you must first determine whether the routers used to connect adjoining subnets can support relaying of BOOTP and DHCP messages. If your routers are not rfc 1542-compliant and cannot be used for DHCP and BOOTP relay, you have two additional options:

1. You can configure a computer running either Windows 2000 Server or Windows NT Server 4.0 as a DHCP Relay Agent component. This computer selectively forwards messages back and forth between clients on the local subnet and a remote DHCP server, using the IP address of the remote server.

2. A computer running Windows 2000 Server configured as a DHCP server for the local subnet. This server computer must contain and manage scope and other address-configurable information for the local subnet it serves.

Having another DHCP server adds more work, but I guess a 'miss' is a 'miss'

Remember this question asked "what can you do?" As Deja-vue stated take your time when reading any questions. Then make sure that you understand what the question is trying to get you to say. Once you are sure of the question then you should be able to pick the correct answers.
