| I used Syngress\OSBORNE Windows 2000 Network Administration 70-216 Study Guide by Thom and Deb Shinder. I can't compare it to any of the others because it is the only one I used.
The Syngress Study Guides I have are used in conjunction with MCSE LearnKey CD's. I also supplement with lots of Technet, KB, on-line articles, and tons of hands-on practice. My impression of the Syngress books are they are shoddy, quickly put together, and error plagued, but they haven't prevented me from passing any of the exams yet. The LearnKeys, on the otherhand, are excellent and fairly accurate so for, except for one minor error I caught while preparing for 217. The Syngress Study Guides and the LearnKeys all came together in a package deal that I had purchased.
Would I recommend them? Probably not! Although, they are all I have used, I can't imagine there not being something better out there on the market, especially with many publishers coming out with second and third editions now.
Let me stress though, no one study guide is going to cover all the material. You must supplement with as much on-line material as possible. Make Google your friend! Labmice.net has tons of great stuff, just use there search engine. The on-line Windows 2000 Resource Kits and Microsoft Technet site are probably the definitive sources for supplemental information. Finally, no good study routine is complete without getting plenty of hands-on! Have fun studying and good luck! | |

| I would have to give the syngress book thumbs up for 70-216. I used that along with Deb and Tom Shinder's "Troubleshooting Windows 2000 TCP/IP". The syngress book is pretty decent, and the Troubleshooting book(also put out by syngress) is simply fantastic. If I didn't read the "troubleshooting" book, I don't think I would have passed like I did on the first try. *Everything* you need to know for the exam is covered between the two books. I tried to use the Microsoft Press book at first, and it was totally pathetic. Only 300-400 pages, completely lacking the in-depth coverage that you need for the exam.
So get the troubleshooting book, you will NOT be sorry!!
