| Went to stupid job fair this morning at Burke Lakefront airport(Cleveland Oh). Big bunch of nothing. One company I went there to see wasn't even hiring for IT.Sat in traffic for 20 minutes, then had to turn around and sit in traffic for anoother half-hour in the other direction. Ahh, good old Cleveland. Oh well. First time I'd been inside the airport terminal in YEARS. Man, I still love flying. Used to hang
out there all the time. Got me and (an old friend) Jason into old Cleveland Hopkins
tower one time years ago. That was fun. Just one look at the screens in Approach control and I was getting hypnotized. Coool place. I LOVE flying. But I digress.
Anyway, went to this job fair today, saw my "new" account executive from New
Horizons there. To refresh you guys:
Went to New Horizons (school in Independence Oh. where I went to get MCSE NT4 certified)
Friday, May 31st, day after I failed 70-216 for the 3rd time. NH president
Ross Atwell can be heard on local radio stations plugging NH. As part of his
spiel, he mentions "after-class support". I went in there Friday to find out
more about that. My old "account executive" Bill Curley was busy with "end of
the month" chores. So was president Ross. Talked to new face (to me) Matt
Brevere. I told him my situation. He told me he was my new account executive. He told me NH is starting an internship/externship program so people can get more hands-on exp. Matt asked me if I was the one that left them all those voicemails. I said "yep, that was me". He said he'd talk to Ross about me.
Saw Matt today at job fair. He told me he talked to Ross about me, and NH is offering me the Windows 2000 classes I need FREE OF CHARGE!!! All I have to do is email Matt about availability of classes, when I want to go, etc. I don't have to struggle along here at MasterPRO anymore with NO instruction!!! At LAST, real CLASSES with someone I can ask questions to!!! Best of all is the Microsoft Official Curriculum that NH uses! Oh yeah, it's freeeee!!! man, that made my day. I never once mentioned to Matt or anybody else about NH's terrible repuatation in the industry, although I had thought about it. Maybe they're finally trying to turn themselves around and make up for themselves. I'm not bad-mouthing them ANY MORE. Man, now I'm excited! It's about TIME I got a little good news.
hey Spid! To heck with ComDoc, NH Rulez!
I really hate having to b***ch, but maybe it does work after all. Of course, I wouldn't call it that, but that's what I would like is some class time. I bet after I do the 216 class, I'll feel more confident. I failed NT in the Enterprise (my LAST NT4 exam) TWICE before I even did the Enterprise class. Mainly because I had a whole month inbetween my 2nd from last NT4 class (the 3-day IIS class) an my Enterprise class. What was I supposed to do in the month inbetween? Nothing? The 3rd time I did my Enterprise exam, the first Monday after the 5-day class, I passed the exam. NOW I'm gonna make some progress, I think. I'm not going to mention it around MasterPRO, either. At leasst not right away.

I'm glad things seem to be working out well for you now.
I just hope the MCT's you get at NH can teach the subject material, because regardless if the class is free or not, it won't do you much good if they can't deliver.

| I doubt that will happen, Spid. I've never had a problem with incompetent MCTs at NH. Not to say it can't happen, but I think it should go Ok.

| Ya I'm sure everything will be fine as well
I took my entire NT4 MOC track at NH a couple of years ago, and really had no major complaints, except that I wasn't too impressed with the one MCT I had for 3 classes, he/she(so I don't offend anyone) was not that good. It's a shame when you know more than the instructor.
Anyhow, best of luck to you eyeccd, I'm sure you'll be on your way to slaying "The Beast" in no time. Keep us posted.

| The free classes will help, but don't go in thinking you will be able to ace it right afterwards. Some tests just require heavy duty studying and lots of labs. Some people might disagree with me, but I found this to be one of them. However, when you go out to get jobs you will find that the extra paper may help out. So have fun and work hard! | |

| But you don't have to ace them, just pass them.

| I took a class on 70-216 and didn't pass on the first try =P. Not saying he won't, just that the class doesn't guarantee anything | |

| I know that the class doesn't guarantee I'll pass, but I'll feel a LOT better about it after I go through the MOC that NH uses. I'll be going in on my fourth try, I DO know quite a few of the questions by now. Due to my inability to get an adeqaute amount of hands-on, I've had to resort to memorizing the questions. I'm hoping to get enough hands-on during the class time, plus someone that knows the material and I can ask questions to, will be enough to get me over the hump. Sad to say, this is how I usually pass exams. Turns out this "school" I've been going to EVERY DAY during the week (since I signed on with them in Dec. 2001) while I've been umemployed since (Sept. 01) is just not up to the task. If you're working on your A+, Network+, etc., then it's OK. Ahything beyond that, it just doesn't cut it. I've been working with the President ever since the last shake-up in personnel, and he's treated me OK. I hate to have to hit him up for a refund of tuitiion. Have NOT told current instructor, who came from NH, OR President of current plans to return to NH for free classes. |
