Author Compared to the Net+ test

Hey I was just wondering if anyone who has taken the 70-216 test has also taken the Net+ test by Comptia. I have passed the Beast so I was thinking that Net+ wouldn't be that bad. Is this the case?

Not sure exactly, but from the objectives I know on the Net +, it is a little different. Network + goes into networking in general, no dns or dhcp. I really wouldnt relate the two. Maybe someone will have a different opinion...

I'm taking the 216 tomorrow so I can't compare except what I've studied. The Net+ is a totally different test 802 regs, OSI model, TCP/IP utils, other net O/S, even some DOS. My test even had alot of unix.

I took the Net+ over a year ago, and they have changed it a bit since then but I can give you a little advice on it. You will have to do some studying for it, they ask you much more about IEEE standards, cabling/signaling types, a little OSI model, stuff like that. There is a tiny bit of DNS/DHCP in it, but they are more concerned that you know what they are and what they do(not that you can actually implement them like Microsoft wants you to). There were also a couple of questions on UNIX and Novell, so be sure to brush up on that too (NDS and NFS). The study guide on this site covered about 65% of the exam (Comptia tests are much more fact-oriented and less scenario). So if you look over the guide here, you will have a pretty good idea of what to expect. It is not a hard test, but if you don't have a solid foundation in the hardware aspect of networking you will have to do a little studying. If you really want it though, you can pass it within two weeks without using any braindumps (its almost all memorization). Hope that helps you out a little.

Taking down 70-216 does not quarantee that you are gona pass Network+ . I am studing both of them and I see that Network+ has a much wider aspect of Networking. On the other hand 216 is drilling down specific subjects like :Install, configure, and troubleshoot DNS - DHCP - RAS- VPN - TCP/IP -NAT and that kind of stuff.
I can see that you have A+ and MCSE under your belt. So I would suggest as the least amount of effort to read a free study notes like cramsession (if you don't want to invest in a book) and go for it.
I am doing almost the same thing with the difference that I took the "All in one Network+ " from a friend and I ll give a shot in Network+ sooner than the 216.

Is the Transcender for this test a good indication of the real thing? I can pass those with no problem at all. Also I have taken the Net Essentials and TCP\IP tests for the NT certification.

The net+ exam covers a lot of the same concepts that the NT4 "TCP/IP Fundamentals" test covered. Like I said, just brush up on the Unix/Novell concepts and check the study guide here out. Test the guide against what you already know, and you will know if you are ready or not.

Know your port numbers. I took my N+ after NT4 TCP and Net Essentials. Going by what this forum says about the beast, N+ is a walk in the park. I found A+ harder than N+. On the NT4 track, there were only two hard exams for me: Server in the Enterprise (hardest exam I have ever done - and hopefully harder than the 216) and SQL Server 7 Admin.

Cyber Dude, I think that the NT Server in the Enterprise test was easier than the 216 test. It is very passable though. The thing that I remember most about the 216 test was RAS.

I agree, 216 does seem harder than Enterprise. I didnt have any problems with my NT4 tests....
