70-216, 65 Questions?
|
|

| I took some time out of my life yesterday and wrote, and regretably, didn't pass 70-216. However, it had 65 questions, and was 210 minutes long. Have they changed the exam, as the info on the site shows 55 questions, and 140 minutes?
Thanks

| Yep, been that way since January. It's hard to find up to date info on test formats anymore. Even Microsoft does not divulge too much about test format. Check postings in the thread such as this one. Usually, someone like your self will have already posted this info. Especially look for posts from people who have passed. They will usually give some insight to the difficulty, how to prepare, etc.
Get right back on it! Reschedule this one for a couple of weeks or so and go after the top three issues you felt weak in on the exam. Also, note that you will get a random pool, so you might have 10 subnet questions one time, one then next. I failed this one first time out on the old style (55 Q's) and passed it on the new style (65 Q's). Where you stand right now is better than you were before. You now clearly know what you are up against and can change course. Good luck.

| I've actually got it rebooked for this Thursday.... The terrible thing about the new structure, is you don't know where you failed, just that you did.
I know the areas that I need to focus on, and have spent the last two days on it. I anticipate passing it this time around.
Thanks for the tips and advice.

| Thanks for the encouragement. Studied hard, and passed the BEAST this morning. Two hours of my life I'll never get back, but at least I'm done it. Only two more to go! | |

| There you go! Hey, news like that deserves it's own thread! Anyway, take a day or two to kick it with the family, then get on to the next thing. What is the next thing? | |

| Going to study this weekend, and write 70-217 next week (maybe Friday..)
I have to get the other core, the design, and 3 or 4 Cisco exams done by the end of June to keep my IP telephony cert.

| Whats the passing score? | |
| jeff_j_black 2002-05-16, 7:00 pm |
| The last listing I saw for passing score was 620. That was before they stopped showing scores, but I think that it still is correct. | |

| The passing core of 70-216 is about 640. | |

| They don't publish the scores anymore. It is simply pass or fail.
Q. Why does Microsoft no longer provide scores?
A. Microsoft has stopped providing numerical scores as part of ongoing efforts to protect exam security and program integrity. Microsoft replaces exam items regularly to minimize item exposure and to ensure that content remains current. As content is replaced, any changes in content difficulty are counterbalanced by changes in the passing score to ensure that consistent standards are used to certify candidates.
Although this ensures consistency in pass/fail decisions, numerical exam scores are not comparable across exam versions—a score of 800 on one version may represent the same skill level as a score of 900 or 700 on another version. As content is replaced more frequently to combat exam piracy, numerical scores become meaningless—only the pass/fail status maintains meaning.

| Yeah, but you still have to get a certain number of questions right. | |

| I'm taking 70-216 in 2 weeks, and now I very concerned. Any recommendations? | |

| It is a good test of your abilities. I actually did not pass my first try. What I was weak on:
Know how to subnet. (Lot's of good stuff on this on the web, including free material from Freak, who posts here regularly.)
Surprising amount of questions on WINS. (I did some follow up study with articles from Cramsession and TechRepublic.)
Also, a lot of wordy questions on DNS. (Same strategy as WINS, just know it inside out.)
Go to the Microsoft site and review the course objectives, pick what you feel most weak in (2-3 topics at most) and drill down with a lot of research.
Hopefully, you have access to a lab. (at least 2 computers running 2k) At the very least you'll want to set up the various services and examine various screens and configuration options. The Microsoft site also has 'How-To's and 'Step by Step' guides that cover a lot of the exam objectives, plus the entire Resource Kit text is online as well.
If you have a lot of network, 2k or NT experience, you should do well. The main thing is not to go into a panick. 216 is like a dog, it smells fear. Control the situation. There is enough time to answer the 65 questions as long as you don't get caught staring at the screen for too long. Save time for review. Hope some of this helps and wishing you all the luck!

| Hey Emmysdad,
I have an off topic question for you. I have an 2600 router with a voice wic and an FXO card. Now I have callmanger and three IP phones. I have the router set up as an mgcp gateway. I can call out with the IP phones. How do I set it up to send incoming pstn calls to ip phones.
Thanks |
