Ladies and Gentlemen,
I'm getting frustrated by the minute! I can't seem to find a real good study resource for the 216 exam. I'm currently using Exam Cram and Alan Carter's Study System. I think the Cram is vague and in short. Carter's has good hands on which I like but not sure is all there. Any suggestions? I don't really care for the Microsoft kits. I think they are high on saturated fat with little carb and proteins!! I loked at the Exam Prep but it has some bad reviews. Suggestions?

Hello,
It seems that each individual has his/her preferences to what study materials work best for them. One will tell you they like the MOC, the next, Sybex, etc.

I found the ExamCram stuff to be very lacking and not very test helpful at all for me. I used the MOCs, but found them lacking as well. I use Syngress and enjoyed their depth of detail and "real world" answers. I also, used Sybex stuff, but found them to be lacking a bit behind the Syngress.

I have the classroom MOCs and they have simulations and intense labs and are tailored for the classroom training environment. If you have a small lab at home those work fairly well, but have no depth of explanations as do some of the other series. Getting off in left field does not help the avid Microsoft student learn anything much. One thing about Microsoft, they even disagree with their own answers sometimes! You have to really know what MS is looking for in their test and training environments.

Once again, it is each individual's heart on the matter.

Test engines are the same way. I find those to be test dependant, and not series dependant. Transcenders works for some MS test, but others it is so for off it will pull you away from the actual material. It is simply useless and a waste of hard earned cash in some cases. So then, I guess it does boil down to a matter of taste.

Maybe these book writers are in cohoots so we have to purchase multiple materials for our studies? ahhahahaaaa....ok, just a tad of humor there

Can't really help you there as my recommendation would be the MOC or the MS Press Kit.

This said, the best book for the 216 imho is the TCP/IP book that is part of the win2k server resource kit.

What I used to pass my 216 exam was the following;

MS Press Kit book
Transcenders
TechNet.com

I used MS Press book, Transcenders which I found to be very helpful as far as the material covered, and plenty of hands-on.

My trip to success with the 216 consisted of Syngress\OSBORNE Windows 2000 Network Administration 70-216 Study Guide by Thom and Deb Shinder. Overall, pretty in-depth, but I found the writing and organization a bit lacking. A couple of the objectives were just kind of glossed over.

LearnKey’s Windows 2000 Network Infrastructure Administration CBT CDs with Michael Storm. A set of 5 CDs consisting of lectures, demonstations/simulations, and tips covering all the objectives for the 216, also included are challenge simulation excercises and challenge tests. Each CD contains about two and a half to three hours of material. Overall, they are pretty comprehensive and really great for quick review of the objectives, especially the ones you are weak on. Downfall is they are quite expensive, but overall great if you can afford them.

I also referenced lots of Microsoft KB and Technet articles, tons of hands on, WBAFranks questions of the day, plus all the demo examsims and free test questions I could find on the net. Good luck!

Thanks all. I got a hold of Transcenders, MS Kit, and the Win2k Network Adm Guide by the Shinders.
