Ok so I`ve taken and passed the 210 and 215 exams, and will now be taking the 216.What I would like to know is this exam really as tough as people are saying?
If so I guess I`d better get reading

Yes this test is tough, but saying that it is passable. You need to get "hands on" with test as it will help no end.

Remember to check in and have a go on my Questions of the Day (84 questions posted to date), this will give you some idea of what is required to pass this exam.

Good Luck with the study and don't forget if you get stuck let us know we are always willing to help!!

This exam is the toughest, it took me a good dedicated 7 weeks to prepare.

Use the MS Press Kit book
TechNet.com
Transcender

And post any questions you may have on this forum

I totally agree. Study hard, get plenty of hands-on, and you should do fine. We're all here to help. Good luck.

Well thanks for the tips, my company put me on the courses (4 core) last year and I`ve taken and passed the first 2 and I have now booked the 216 exam

So I`ll recover the course material and the transcenders and the exam cram book and get the hands on at work and on my lab setup at home so should be ok
Thanks

Do you have the exam scheduled yet? If not do that to give you a better drive to meet a deadline

I did that with the other 2 as i was having trouble making the time to study, so i booked it to give myself a deadline

congrats on passing the 210 and 215.

Do yourself a favor and skip the 216 for now and take the 217 instead. It builds directly on top of the other two you already took. Then go back to the 216...

In a sense I do agree with freak. Take the 217 first say in the beginning of June. Then take the 216 in the beginning of july.

Good luck

It is tough, but I passed it on my first try with 12 days of dedicated study time. One of the tricks I used in preparing was to take 70-217 first, as there is some overlapping material.

I found it to be the toughest exam in the track, by far. It did throw me for a loop, I must say.

Incidently, I am teaching 2153 -- the MOC course for the 216 test -- in a couple of weeks

I am so not looking forward to that

Go freakster you really are dedicated, aren't you?

I do agree with freak about the exam path, having passed 210 and 215 I am now studying for 217 then possibly 218 before attempting 216 which leaves only one exam as I am already an MCSE in NT 4.0.

Would anyone suggest the next certification after MCSE /MCSA?

Considering that you already have the MS and Novell tracks pretty much taken care of, isn't it time you paid a little visit to the cisco world? I think that the CCNA would be a perfect next step for you... if you have any interest in layer 3, that is

The Cisco certification, it will be a challenge as I haven't had that much hands on experience with routers over the last eighteen months. The 2600 series are great routers and they have reduced in size if memory serves.

Looked on e-bay the other day and the only ones that were reasonably priced wouldn't ship outside the US. Does any of the UK members know where I can get my hands on a Cisco 2600?

Thanks in advance and thanks, as always for the advice freak.

You're very welcome.

You should seek out Yeti. He is in the UK and has a great cisco lab.

There are some pretty good router simulators out there too. I know its not the real thing, but if it comes down to it, it works, I used one a little back when I started my CCNA. Good luck if you do go for it, its a beast....

I agree about taking 217 before 216. I did the same and it seems to give a good foundation for 216, especially the DNS coverage.
Freak, I know how you're feeling. At the college where I teach (http://www.networkcollge.net) we're not required to use the MOC but I've taught the same course using the MS Press Training kit. Even if you have the material, it's still tuff to make sure you can answer just about anything a student can ask. The one that still gives me problems is 220. Not that I don't understand it but making it where the students can understand the material.

you make a very good point. THe thing about the 2153 class that I am not too mad about is the fact that the labs can go horribly wrong, and the troubleshooting can also be a major pain in the behind

Freak:
Agreed 100%. I found that when labs go wrong, most of the time it's the student clicking without reading. I usually try to test the labs before-hand, if at all possible.
