Hi All,

I'm having a problem working out the following subnet mask,etc.

Q).Your client computers are configured as proxy client's.Your DHCP server uses a scope of 172.41.48.0 and also uses a range of:172.41.48.1 - 172.41.48.255 with a 20 bit subnet mask. Users can't access any machines on the network. What must be done.

A)Activate the scope
Re-create a new scope with a subnet mask of 255.255.248.0

Having to re-create a new scope & also having to activate the newly created scope I understand fine, no problem.
But, the subnet of 255.255.248.0 gets me (if this is indeed the correct answer) ?

To me, the keyword would be the "20 bit subnet mask", but based on this my answer would be 255.255.240.0
I would have used 12 places whereas it looks as if they have used 11 places.
I don't know why ??

PS: I have written once & failed the first time (don't know by how much or how little), so I wanna make sure I get this right & understand it too.....

Does the question give you an amount of hosts?

I don't see enough info to answer this. Perhaps the number of hosts needed per subnet or number of subnets needed would shed some light on this question...

Don’t waste any more time on this question. It’s straight from a dump and only supplies incomplete information, so answering it, not to mention, understanding it is an impossibility. If you want to pass this exam, learn every objective outlined by Microsoft for the exam thoroughly and do all the hands on you can do. Drill yourself; then drill yourself some more!

Thanks for the replies thus far guys, greatly appreciate it.....

There is no mention of the ammount of hosts that are required, also no mention of the ammount of networks wanted,etc...
When there is, those are questions I can usually solve with no problems.

Should I follow Zaraspook's lead & forget about it until I test again ?
