| What is the best book for the 70-216 exam?
I am using the MS-Press book for the 70-217 Active Directory exam and don't just don't like it. I think it is because the information is hidden within tons of boring text. Other books like ExamCram, Meyers A+ All-in-one, and Sybex CCNA, are much more readable. For AD I think I will review the transcender questions and use the MS press to research those questions, but 70-216 is a much harder test.
For it I would like to read an entire book. Any sugestions? | |

| Hi,
I used the Sybex book for 70.217, and I must say it is much better than MSPress. Personally I use non MS-books to prep for the exams, as these guys are not colored by Microsoft.

| I don't know what book to recommend to you as I usually prepare for the exam by reading the MS Press Training Kit & then reading study guides & then use the Trancender products.. hope this helps | |

| Here ya go Michael,
Here's a recommendation as well as a link to a previous thread. I'm partial to the Shinder Book

I just finished reading the entire Syngress\Osborne Book by the Shinder's and it's pretty good. I was putting together a formal review but here are my tentative thoughts on it
It's much better than those darn microsoft manuals..it's both informative and an easy read. The only fault that I've seen so far are the occaisional Kart before the horse situations that have left me scratching my head. Truly, I'm big on the ergonomics of learning. I'm wondering if the format of the book would be better served by starting with the composite services such as Protocals. Communications overview, TCP\IP,DHCP, DNS, IPSEC then the various services
Major Issues
Chapter Five: RAS and IAS
This is the first major speedbump that I've hit. We're discussing integral aspects of VPN related to IPSEC\Cerificate services and Encryption which have left me somewhat confused. I believe that the subject matter would sink in a little better if this section followed the Certificate and security overview. Additionally, when discussing the differences in PPTP vs. L2TP, it be nice to have a compare and contrast chart available as a guide. It'd be great to include dependency services ie L2TP requires Certificate services.
Chapter Seven: OBjective 7.01
I'm finding that it is difficult to understand what protocols and processes are related to the different phases of IPSEC\secure channel communications. Are we talking of separate process or the same process just another stage? It would be extremely helpful to have a step by step flow chart in place that would give an outline to the process from start to finish. I'm going to have to resort to other sources here to solve this difficiency.
IPSEC Tunneling refers to creating 2 rules but the description shows only one and the tunnel endpoint I assume is going to be the external adapeter of the hosts gateway? This requires clarification? pg 499
Certificate services information is pretty basic.
Hope this is helpful,

| I am using the MS Press books and Exam Cram. Does anyone recommend Transcender for this exam. I've found the transcenders for the other tests don't prepare you as well for W2K exams as they did for NT. | |

| I used the Transcender for 216 which I took last week. Also used the MS Press Training Kit. I admit, the book leaves a lot to be desired. The Transcenders, on the other hand, was right on the money with the material that was covered. You just have to learn to understand their explanations. I've used them on all 10 of my exams and haven't failed one yet. Yes, it is a long, tough test but it is passable. No matter what book you use, get some hands-on so you will be familiar with the different services and how they work. Good Luck! | |

| What I used to pass the 216 exam was the following;
MS Press Kit
Cramsession.com
Transcender
Franks Questions
and windows database | |
