And today's poser is ....

Q48. You must configure your 45-node Windows 2000 network so all nodes can access the Internet through a cable modem installed on the network's only domain controller. Your network currently uses APIPA. How can you configure this functionality without incurring additional expense?

A. Configure ICS from Network and Dial-up Connections.

B. Install Microsoft Proxy Server 2.0 on the domain controller.

C. Configure the RRAS service as a NAT server.

D. Configure the RRAS service as a RAS.

Good Luck .... see you tomorrow for the answer!!

Well it all depends on if your current setting have a DCHP server install. If it does then do what I did and setup the NAT server, other wise you can use the crappy ICS

'C'

"C"
In this situation I would use NAT mainly because of the number of clients. I feel it would be easier to manage.

I'll venture with C - A would work great for a few machines (I use it on a 3-machine network here), but I don't know about 45.

If your network has 45 computers, for me I think it is a medium size.

My answer is C.

I will go for A, as you dont have a DHCP installed so ICS will work. Ok, you can also choose C, but that is going to entail complex configurating, plus DHCP.

And the answer is ....

Correct Answers: A

The best answer is to configure the domain controller as an Internet Connection with ICS properly configured. While is is possible to configure the RRAS service as a NAT server, it is not necessary to use NAT since there is only a single IP address used to connect to the Internet. If the ISP assigns multiple addresses, then you must use NAT. NAT is much harder to configure and administer than ICS.

In addition, RAS is an incorrect option since it allows users the ability to dial in to the server from an outside location. Microsoft Proxy Server would incur an additional expense, and is mainly used from Windows NT 4.0 Internet access.
