And today's poser is ....

Q48. You administer a small office Windows 2000 network. The network contains three Windows 2000 Server computers and four Windows 2000 Professional client computers. WINS is used locally for name resolutions. This network has a single Internet interface. DNS is used for Internet name resolution using a DNS server at the ISP. Which network configuration is best for this small office network?

A. Use Microsoft Proxy Server to connect to the Internet, and use DHCP to allocate IP addresses. Use a separate VPN server to permit L2TP/IPSec tunnel traffic.

B. Use Microsoft Proxy Server to connect to the Internet, and use DHCP to allocate IP addresses. Use a separate VPN server to permit PPTP tunnel traffic.

C. Use NAT configured with an appropriate private IP address range.

D. Use ICS, with a private IP address range of 192.168.0.0/24

Good Luck .... see you tomorrow for the answer!!

How about D?

I'll say C.

But why would you use WINS in a pure 2K network?

Have to go with D on this one.

(AutoDHCP)

I would choose C. Using NAT would give you more options for future growth although D. would also work since there is only 1 Internet connection.

And the answer is ....

Correct Answers: D

When using ICS on your home office network, you must configure two connections. The first connection is a LAN adapter connecting the computers on the network. The second connection will connect the network to the Internet. You do not need to configure DHCP and DNS.

For users on the network to use the ICS feature, they must configure TCP/IP on their local area connection to automatically obtain an IP address. They must also configure Internet options for ICS.

For SOHO networks, you should use ICS. You can configure the network to use a private IP address range of 192.168.0.0 to 192.168.0.24. NAT is best suited for a medium sized network. You can configure the medium network with an appropriate private IP address range. Using Microsoft Proxy Server to connect to the Internet, and using DHCP to allocate IP addresses is best suited for large networks. Use a separate VPN server to permit PPTP and L2TP/IPSec tunnel traffic on the large network.
