And today's poser is ....

Q41. You administer your company's Windows 2000 network. Your company employs a sales force that needs access to the latest company data when travelling. You want to ensure that the company will establish a network connection for your salespeople regardless of where the call originates.

Your company also allows cutomers access to the network using Routing and Remote Access to view and track orders. To ensure network and data security, your company wants to specify the location from which customers can connect to your network.

You want to configure tour company's RRAS to facilitate access for salespeople and for customers. You want bothe the salespeople and the customers to use mutual authentication to provide protection against remote server impersonation.

Which settings should you configure? (Choose all that apply)

A. Set Callback option to Always Callback To for salespeople.

B. Set Callback option to Set by Caller for salespeople.

C. Set Callback option to No Callback for customers.

D. Set Callback option to Always Callback to for customers.

E. Set Callback option to Set by Caller for customers.

F. Enable MS-CHAP v1

G. Enable MS-CHAP v2

Good Luck .... see you tomorrow for the answer!!

And the answer is ....

Correct Answers: B, D and G

In this scenario, you want two different callback settings for two groups of users - salespeople and customers. You want the salespeople to be able to establish a network connection regardless of where the call originates. You want the customers to be able to establish a session from a particular location.

The Callback option of Routing and Remote Access calls the remote access client after the user credentials have been verified. Callback can be configured on the server to call the remote access client back at a number specified by the user, at a predetermined number, or to never call back.

You should set the Callback option for the salespeople to the Set By Caller option. This option allows the caller to set the callback number when they connect. You should set the Callback option for the customers to the Always Callback To option. This option only permits a customer to remotely connect from a certain number and provides greater security than the Set By Caller option.

The Set Callback option to Always Callback To for salespeople is incorrect because then the RRAS server would always call back to the same number. The Set Callback option to No Callback for customers option is incorrect because it provides no security. This option does not ensure that callers are who they say they are by calling back at a predetermined number. If you allowed the customer to use the Set by Caller option then the caller could specify call back to any number. You would have no way of verifying the identity of the caller.

Because you want to use mutual authentication to provide protection against remote server impersonation, you should use the MS-CHAP v2 authentication protocol. MS-CHAP v1 only provides authentication of the remote access client.
