And today's poser is ....

Q37. You have a DNS server and Internet Information server on the same computer. The DNS server is resolving all domain names for the Web sites that are hosted by Internet Information server. You have leased 32 IP addresses but the DNS server and Internet Information server are reporting errors when you try to use them. What could be the problem?

A. A reverse lookup zone has not been created.

B. The IP addresses may not be bound to the network card.

C. The DNS server may not have the capacity for all 32 IP addresses.

D. Ther server may not have enough memory for an IP pool of 32 addresses.

E. Internet Information server may not have the capacity for all 32 IP addresses.

Good Luck .... see you tomorrow for the answer!!

My pick:

B. The IP addresses may not be bound to the network card.

And the answer is ....

Correct Answers: B

A. Incorrect: Reverse lookup zones are not applicable to this question.

B. Correct: Before the IP addresses can be accessed by the DNS server and Internet Information server, they must be bound to the network card.

Note: Leases for IP addresses are typically setup by a DHCP server. The process for leasing IP addresses involves four steps:

1. IP Lease Request - the client broadcasts a request for the location of a DHCP server.
2. IP Lease Offer - the DHCP server sends an offer of an IP address for lease to the client.
3. IP Lease Selection - the client selects the lease offer and requests the IP address.
4. IP Lease Acknowledgement - the DHCP server acknowledges the selection and the IP address is assigned to the client.

In most cases, the DNS server and the Internet Information server would only need one IP address. In cases where multiple network adapter cards are used, multiple IP addresses could be used. It is unlikely that 32 IP addresses would ever be used by a DNS server or Internet Information server.

C, D and E. Incorrect: The DNS server and Internet Information server capacities for 32 IP addresses are irrelevant to this scenario therefore these answers are incorrect.
