| With it's RIP & OSPF bundle in Windows 2000 Server ,so call - " out of the box ", will Microsoft dominate the dedicated router markets which is held so far by the likes of CISCO ,INTEL and etc... in the near future ?
Quite an interesting quiz ..

| I really don't think so, when you factor in that most small business need a T1 interface or an equivalent and the price of routers have dropped drastically in the last year or two. Not to mention the enormous need for better firewalling by most businesses.
by the way RIP is horrible and OSPF isn't much better!

| Remembered past history ,how Microsoft kill off Netscape, with it's free browser in it's OS's. Is Microsoft pulling it off this time with RRAS ? Would further improvement on it's RIP & OSPF, in the near future, slowing eating up the Router market pie ? Would you compromise on quality since it's free ? | |

| First of all since when is Win2000 Server free?
When you say it's RIP & OSPF, I assume you mean Microsoft. If so, Microsoft had nearly nothing to do with developing these protocols and they will have nothing to do with improving them. RIP is hardly ever used and OSPF is mostly only used in Frame Relay private networks.
I really think that comparing MS RRAS to a cisco 7507 is border line apples to oranges.

| Thanks to the 'Fruitful' commentaries. I would hope for a less serious one though |
