I thought that I would start this thread for anybody else that has failed 70-216, whether it be your first time taking it, or your 10th.

Let's see what everybody says as far as what their thoughts were on what caused us to fail.

For me, studying subnetting and DNS weren't enough. There weren't any subnetting questions and not much on DNS, other than the security aspect of DNS, and dynamic updating.
Got quite a bit of CA and monitor questions (Network & System).

So hopefully we'll hear from some of you.

Thanks.

This is a tough test, which most people fail on the first try. So far you are par for the course

I know some very gifted Network Engineer who failed that test on the first try. no shame in that.

It's how you rebound and go for it that will tell you what you are made of.

let us know if we can help!

Thanks, freak.
I appreciate the vote of confidence.

This time, I'm giving myself over a month (except for Christmas week, of course )

I'm studying my butt off right now with the MS Press book & quizzing myself with Testking.

While the exam is fresh in your mind:

Go to the Microsoft Training and Certification site and review the skills being measured for 216.

Try to isolate the top three topics that you had questions for that gave you trouble on the exam.

Do focused study on those areas.

Spend some time in the lab working on those areas.

Retake the exam in no more than two weeks to a month, unless you were not comfortable at all with the exam.

great tips. Log some hands-on time to make sense of the theory...

Sorry to hear that you missed it ,but as Freak pointed out, there are many before you that have failed. Just donīt wait too long before you go for it again, wish you luck....

Just curious, I noticed that you've taken 218, but 216 is not listed. Is there any reason why you decided to take 218 before 216?

I missed this one on my first try, and I'm glad I did! I learned some much more than if I would have barely passed the first time. It's only failure if you give up. ($125 notwithstanding)

Tough exam, good try. Keep at it!
me? I dunno...

I think that the nature of the adaptive test is to create a scenario roughly equivalent to a personalized worst nightmare. Whatever it concentrated on are probably your personnal areas of weakness, and the areas where you should concentrate your efforts for the next time around... then again, maybe I'm full of fish

216 really taught me how to study. The way I studied for the rest of them after that, the exam was the easy part.

Just curious, how exactly was that? Do you mean hands on practice?

Hi !

I saw a post on this Forum that someone recomended 218 before 217 and 216 (canīt remember who), anyway I started study for 216 and found it to dificult, and wanted to have some more hands on before taking it, but I still wanted to go on certifying so thats the the reason.
And so far so good I passed 217 yesterday and will have short break before heading on to 216.

Well, yes that's part of it.

First, you start with the vendors exam topics.

Then Theoretical: books, web research, anything you can get your hands on.

Next Practical: using the vendors course description, go through hands-on in the lab. Microsoft is excellent in this regard, as they have a good course description and also have many 'How To' and 'Step By Step' articles that match many of the course objectives.

Finally Exam Practice: answer a lot of questions. I still get 15 e-mail questions of the day in my mail box, but at the very least subscribe to ones pertaining to the topic you are studying. Many sites listed in the Certcities 'Guilt Free Guide to Practice Questions' have an email feature, including this board. Get a good practice exam from legitemate source, many sources offer free trials to download or are web based.

If either Pratical or Practice highlight a weaknes then go back to Theoretical for a brush up.

I am structurally unemployed, and anything but a "gifted network engineer," and managed to pass this exam on the first try, after two weeks of study (no cheating, either), using margingal resources.

If I can do it, you can, too.

Setbgapt; The 218 questions seem quite a bit easier than the others.

Jeff; Thats about the program I'm on, practice qestions from this site since about May, and generally looking everywhere I can.

Divxguy; your brain must grab information fast. did you have had a previous background in networking?

I didn't fail 216 but I did fail 240 which included 216.
Heck if you take enough tests you will find one that you fail.
Mine cost me $75 but I got in on the special pricing right before the end of 2001.

So true...

There's always something bigger, faster, stronger, more invincible, etc.

Like I always say:

"If it don't kill ya, it'll just piss you off."

Nope, although I did have one in software development.
