| Hi All,
Passed The Beast today!
Lots of DNS,DHCP,RRAS,VPN,RIP and CA questions. All I've got to say is that you can not over-prepare for this exam. The amount of knowledge required on each subject is great and I still encountered a few head scratchers.
Lots of scenerio questions with choose all that apply were throw at me, but I handled them without too much trouble. You really need to take your time and re-read the questions a few times.
Materials I used to prepare were:
The MOC (solid as usual)
ExamCram (not that great)
Windows 2000 White Papers - DHCP, DNS, CA, IPSec
TechNet Knowledgebase Articles Q234320, Q255999, Q249868, Q130642, and Q253169
The Windows 2000 Server Resource Kit
Understanding IP Addressing - http://www.3com.com/other/pdfs/infr...n_US/501302.pdf
Transcenders for 70-216
Hands On lab with 2 DC's and 1 client pc
Well that's about it. I'm taking a brainbreak throughout the holiday's and will pick it back up with 70-221 next and finish with 70-217. Network Infrastructure interests me a heck of a lot more than AD so that's why I'm leaving 70-217 until the end.
Best of luck to everyone preparing for this exam! You can do it!

| Good job Spid. How many questions did you encounter regarding CAs and routing protocols? Those are my weak areas and I need to brush up on those a little bit before I go in and take it. Gonna check out some of those resources so can you do me a favor and post the links to those whitepapers if you still have them?
I actually find Active Directory to be way more interesting IMO. Thats why I took it after 70-210.

Thanks Slinky! The White papers were included on one of the CD's I got when I took the MOC class. I'll get the links and post them later for you.
Sorry, I forgot to answer your other questions. I got about a handful of CA questions and 2 RIP questions.

| Because of this subnetting I rescheduled my exam for January, 2003 instead December this year and I expect to have more than 1 question! | |

I thought I'd get more too. But they sure hammered the hell out of DNS, RRAS, and DHCP. I must have gotten 12-14 questions on DNS alone.

Good luck with 70-221 after your brief break.

| Great job there Spidders....
On a scale of 1 to 10, on the tests you have taken, 10 being the hardest, how did this one rate for you???
|
| Thanks Linux_Hawk!
Out of the exams I've taken, on a scale of 1 to 10 I'd have to say it's a 10.
The tough thing about this exam is that the depth of knowledge you need to know about the subject material is great. Throw in the fact that there is a lot of subject material as well, and you've got the makings of one brutal exam. The questions are long-winded at times with exibits and choose all that apply answers. The long and the short of it is that if you are not prepared, this exam will smack you silly.
It took me almost 3 months of solid study and preparation for this exam and I still didn't feel 100% confident that I'd pass it. (first time I've ever went into an exam not 100% confident in my ability to pass it). When I put my mind to it, I usually can study for and knock out an exam in about 4 or 5 weeks. I wasn't even close to being ready after a month of studying for this monster.
Best of luck to you! | |
| Linux_Hawk 2002-11-26, 12:44 pm |
| I will defenitly bone up for this before I take and pass it.
Soon I will pass it and the 218 then try to get employed.
Thanks for your response and congradulations again...

| Spid - when you study for a test (this one for example), are you starting from scratch? By that I mean no other training besides OJT, experience, personal research and things like that. Or do you take a class or seminar to go along with it? | |
|
| For this one I did take the 5-Day MOC 2153 course. Other than that class, all other preparation was done via self-study, research, on-the-job experience, setting up my test domain at home and working through some of the labs, reading some "white papers", etc...
When I felt I had a good understanding of the material, I started hitting the Transcenders practice exams, and for all of the questions I got wrong, I would research out why via Technet(or the MS knowledgebase).
HTH! | |

Hi nila_40,
I didn't mean to spook you
Everyone learns at their own pace and 5 weeks of solid prep might be enough for you, but it just wasn't for me on this exam.
After 5 weeks, I was DNS, DHCP, WINS and subnetting machine, but I was lacking somewhat with CA's, VPN's, RRAS policies, IPSec and RIP. I probably could have booked the test and passed it. But that would have depended on the type of questions they asked, and I didn't want to go in worried about that.
If you feel that after 5 weeks you are ready, take the exam! I'm sure you will do fine!!
Best of luck! | |
|
| Congrats there Spid. Glad I checked this site or I would not have known. Thanks for the tips on passing this beast. | |

| Well, I took 216 for the first time last Saturday, and I must say, that naming it THE BEAST is an understatement!!!
I only gave myself 2 weeks for hardcore studying and testking quizzing, so I have to admit that I was definitely unprepared for the onslaught.
I, too, got quite a bit of CA questions. Around 7-10 out of 50 questions! That was one of the subjects that I have no experience or study in. Also got some System & Network Monitor questions.
I've scheduled it again for 5 weeks from now, so any suggestions for good studying would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

| Examsoeasy strikes again, avoid like the plague.
There may be some genuine information there but as the first heading if for great exam papers. It is a bit suspect.

I sure as heck hope you aren't insinuating that I used their "product". I actually emailed MS about them the day examsoeasy decided to spam the forums.
| jeff_j_black 2002-12-17, 8:19 am |
| No, Examsoeasy has been posting, but the message gets deleted, so all you saw was the attacking reply to the examsoeasy post. |
