Author WINS Server Replacement

I have 3 WINS server, each is on a different subnet. They are all configured a currently replicating and otherwise working correctly.

I need to replace 1 WINS server with another, newer WINS server on the same subnet. The current WINS server is configured with a static IP, and the all clients on the subnet are configured with static IP's.

To ease the administrative burden of changing the WINS address manually on the all of the client computers on the subnet, I've decided to give the new WINS server the same IP as the existing one, once the new server is completed and I'm ready to take the old one offline.

Question

How can I set up the new WINS server to replicate with the other WINS servers on all subnets prior to the move. I need to have a minimal amount of downtime while changing out the old WINS and making the new WINS active with the existing WINS IP address.

Thanks,
J

RW = Replacement WINS server
OW = Old WINS server

Set up RW w/ different IP address. sync. Take OW offline, and change IP address of RW to IP address of OW. Done. Do this at night when there is no traffic coming from users.

Would I need to reconfigure the push/pull partners on the other subnets WINS servers? They will be referencing the same IP (as the IP's will be swapped), but the new WINS server will have a different name from the old one.

why not give it the same name when you change the IP address? What's one more change

If all you have to change is the push/pull relationship, then it's a pretty minor thing anyway.
