| i have a 10/100 kingston hub that works ok until yersterday.
since yersterday any computer using the hub can contact the dhcp server, and receive an APIPA address.
i can work with manually ip configuration on workstations.
any comments? | |

| Do you mean that it cannot contact the DHCP server? Because if it can contact it, then it shouldn't have an APIPA address.
Hubs are about as low as they get as far as the OSI model is concerned (physical layer), so if you're having a problem with clients not being able to contact a DHCP server with the hub, its a safe assumption that it has to deal with the physical aspect of it. Did you try different ports, cables, or a different hub? Did you check your connections? Hook up a client directly to the DHCP server and see if it can obtain an address that way. You will need a crossover cable if you wnat to try that.

Yes.i`m receiving apipa if i use this HUB. If i change the HUB i don`t have such problems.
i try diferent cables, ports and connections and the problem is similar.
i use lot of diferent cables, short cables, certified cables, and the problem is the same. using the hub ANY client (i`m talking about more than 5 diferent pcs with diferent OSs, including MAC computers)receive an DHCp address.
The dhcp is suministered by a ICS xp computer. maybe i must try with another DHCp server too....

| Hmmmm.....
If you use another hub and DHCP works fine, then it sounds to me like something is wrong with the hub.
I'm sure this is just a "dumb" hub so I couldn't see how the UDP ports 67 and 68 could become blocked.
Have you contacted Kingston to get their take on your situation?
