why does the global layer support only iterative name resolution but not recursive name resolution?
me? I dunno...

Welcome to the forum, there are some people here who really know their stuff, you will probably get the right answer eventually, but for now I'll try what I can.

I remember seeing a reference to this in the MOC 70-217 book, but I can't find it now. It seems to me that the global catalogue stores a record of every object in active directory but only notes certain attributes, "travelling light" so to speak... It may be possible that they only include the necessary information for one type of query in keeping with the logistical demands of minimizing network (replication) traffic to acceptable levels.

Then again, it maybe something altogether different

What do you mean by "global layer"?

the global layer is formed by highest-level nodes, that is root nodes and directory nodes logidcally close to the root. will the performace improve if they support the recursive name resolution they can use the caching to respond the requests from clients more quickly? And also the network
traffic would be reduced?

As you know, name space is distributed and has three logical layers

– Global layer
– Administrational layer
– Managerial layer

The Global Layer (highest level nodes (root and a few children)) represent groups of organizations, and rare changes occurs on this records. For performance issues maybe is limited only to iterative name resolution.

rare changes occurs on this records so for performance and security issues only iterative name resolution is permited on this layer.
me? I dunno...

I'm sure that will come in handy, thank you.
