I have a win2k network. I have one server that is the DHCP server. The server provide Scope options and Ip configuration to 200 clients.

The clients need DHCp server 24/7, so i want to provide some kind of fault tolerance. A cluster is not important here. I believe that a 70/30 rule is enough.

I want to know how to implement the rule without affect clients. I have a 2nd server ready with win2k as 2nd dhcp but i want to know if the process become transparent for the network.

a step by step guide, links or personal recomendation is highly appreciated!!! thanks

When both DCHP servers are on the same subnet you should use the 50/50 rule. I think I have that right. On both servers you will need to create the same scope. For example on DCHP1 create a scope of 192.168.1.1-192.168.1.254 and make an exclusion of 192.168.1.127-192.168.1.254. On DHCP2 you will need to create the same scope of 192.168.1.1-192.168.1.254 but exclude the range of 192.168.1.1-192.168.1.126. I believe the 70/30 rule applies when the servers are on remote subnets. That way the local server contains 70% of the addresses and the remote server contains the remaining 30%.

mmmm. yes! this is exactly what i want. the problem is that i have a limite scope of valid address......... i canīt make that....... so my only solution is a cluster service!

thanks!!!!!!
