| You are the network administrator for Digital Hawai Bank. Srv2 and Srv3 are configured as caching-only servers. Both servers forward requests to Srv1. Srv1 is configured as the primary server for the woodgrovebank.com domain. Users on networks 10.10.76.0 and 10.10.77.0 frequently use an Internet application that gathers stock quotes from various servers on the dhawai.com domain
You want to reduce DNS network traffic.
What should you do?
1- Increase the forward time-out seconds on Srv2 and Srv3
2- Increase the Time to live (TTL) for the SOA (start of authority) record on Srv2 and Srv3
3- Increase the Time to live (TTL) for the SOA (start of authority) record on Srv1
4- Set the Server Optimi2ation option on Srv2 and Srv3 to Maximi2e data throughput for network applications

| Since Srv2 and Srv3 are caching only servers, they are not authoritative for any zones, therfore they don't contain any forward lookup zones. Without forward lookup zones you cannot have an SOA record. So options 2 & 3 are out. Increasing the forward timeout on the servers means that is how long the caching servers will continue to use Srv1 before moving on to the next forwarder. Since there is only 1 forwarder, option 1 doesn't make sense to me. Plus thats not going to reduce network traffic, just delay it. So that leaves option 4 which I've never heard of. I don't understand how you would set a DNS server to optimize data throughput for network applications. I would think that would be up to the resolver and not the server. | |

| it says in answer #3 to increase the TTL for Srv1 which is the primary server for the domain. wouldn't Srv1 be the server with the SOA record that needs increasing? i'm thinking "C" is the answer... | |
