If you want to test to ensure that DNS is working properly you can just type in NSLOOKUP at the command prompt, and if it reports the proper server then it is working properly. *NOTE* You must have a reverse lookup zone for it to work right though. You can also go to the monitoring tab on the server and do a simple test against it and if it passes you know that its working.

As for troubleshooting with it, I have yet to find a good resource. I understand some of the basics, but overall I consider it to be a "mystery utility". The TCP/IP Core Networking guide has some information, but not very much. It tells you have to simulate zone transfers and stuff like that, but its really lacking. If anybody else has any good links that go into detail please post them.

saludos Alex.

thanks to both.....

i know that i need ptr records on my dns because win2k don`t install this stuff for default.

my firsts domain implementations a year ago was bad implemented because DNS don`t create SRV records and i don`t add the Reverse ZOne.

Now i have more than 50 domains installed since 6 months ago without ANY problem and are working fast, with dns, dhcp and another services.

But nslookup is one of the least used utilities for me. I use everyday ipconfig, tracerts, ping, etc... but not nslookup...

i ever check the both test on the monitoring tab on the dns...

thanks for the help!!
