Hey guys and gals.

A mate of mine put me onto this nice little software program about 2 weeks ago. It's called VMWare.

You can check it out here.

http://www.vmware.com

It lets you create any number of computers inside your current one. It's completely independent from the host operating system.

For example, I run 2000 Pro on my workstation and 2000 Server on my server in my lab setup at home. I then run VMWare on my workstation and I've got Linux, NT4, 95, 98, XP and .NET server to choose from.

I also run VMWare on my server and have .NET server and linux to choose from.

Basically you tell VMWare what OS you want to run and it has preset configs (that you can change). It will use a percentage of your RAM for the OS and create a Virtual Hard drive which is just a file. Each time you select an OS to run in VMWare it mounts that file and bingo, a bios screen and everything comes up on the screen and the rest is history.

These "virtual" computers are connected to the "real" network and can join domains etc etc. It's exactly the same as if you had a separate computer.

So, if you've only got 1 or 2 computers and you want 3 or 4, then download it and check it out. The trial version limits each hard drive to about 2GB, which is usually ample anyway.

Well, hope this might help ppl with their study and experimentation

Have Fun!!!

That is a great tip! I have been wanting to test that program out, the lab is too busy for it right now.

COOL.

I will have to wait for a bit a free cask though, as I do not want to uninstall and reinstall the eval every 30 days.
