i am going to make the safe assumption that N+ has a lot of overlap with network infrastructure. my goal is to get N+ then network infrastructure so that i am MCP. im reading the sybex N+ book, wondering what i should study to bridge the gaps in knowledge when i have complete N+ and go to Net Infra. I really dont want to read another thick sybex for net infra. i guess if i have to i will though. suggestions greatly appreciated.

thanks all

My experience was, Net+ had very few similarities to 70-216. There are no questions like what's the maximum distance a Thinnet (10base2) coax cable can run, or which IRQ sound cards most commonly use. Not to discourage you, by any means, because this test is made up of a lot of IP routing/protocols, DNS, DHCP and WINS, etc, but on a much deaper level. Get to know each of these along with Certificates Authorities and you should do fine. I used quite a few sources, but the online help in each section, in W2K Server helped quite a bit.

Good luck and study hard!

When I got to the practice tests it seems there is little overlap. Sybex has a section of the book that covers info from N+, but it shows up nowhere in the practice tests.

These tests are nothing alike. Yes, they both talk about dhcp, dns, tcp/ip...stuff like that. However, the 216 test is much much more difficult, and thus, much more in depth. Plus, it focuses on MS windows 2k and its part in all of those technologies.

As for network+...its a great test, and a little tough, but its mainly an introductory certification. It's a great cert to get, by all means...go for it,but don't expect to just cruise through the 216 test if you've aced the network+ test. You've got a long way to go still in that case.

Definately learn IP routing like the back of your hand, and know everything about dhcp, wins, dns, certificate authorities, and nat as it relates to windows 2000. Then you're on your way.

Good luck!
