| How can I configure RRAS to use the number a client is calling from as the authentication identity?

| Do you mean as part of a policy, or as part of the user's account properties? | |

| I mean if I wanted anonymous users to be able to access resources and not to need any authentication at all. Like at a convention where I wanted to show passers-by how it works.
I am not even sure it is possible but it certainly is a challenge.

| you could use the phone numbers as the usernames and set it for callback..the callers would be authenticated because they are calling from a number that you have set up | |

| yep you can do it, but you would have to be using callerID .. but yep rra provides this function .. good luck ..

| Well, if you're using Radius authentication, then no, I don't think it's possible. From what I've seen, the radius client doesn't forward any caller id info to the radius server.
I don't believe there is a way that you can simply authenticate through a phone number, without using a username and password (if that is what you are asking). When you establish a dial up connection, you need to specify a username and password.
I would assume you could use a generic account, such as guest, and configure it's properties to use a null password. You would also need to configure it's dial in properties to allow access, and to authenticate the dial in number. You would also need caller id equipment, and a the appropriate driver to pass the caller id info. | |

| You can set the policy to allow the connection without negotiating authentication. However, the easiest way would be to create a general user and assign the dial in number within their account profile. |
