I have a really good understanding of the OS, and I'm taking a class here in another couple months just to brush up before I take the test. My question is, how long before it become outdated like the NT? And I don't mean it like that, but...well...you know what I mean!

A lot of companies are still running NT, therefore the cert will still be valid for quite a while yet even when MS discontinue it.
