PXE - Preboot Execution Environment

When a system boots from its PXE compliant NIC, it attempts to get an IP address from a DHCP server via bootstrap(BOOTP). In the system BIOS, if the system supports PXE boot, you should see a PXE boot or network boot selection in the boot order menu of the systems BIOS. With Windows 2000, PXE compliant client systems are used to download a RIS image from a RIS server.

There's more to PXE, but with respect to the exam, it basically is used to network boot a client system without an OS installed up onto the network.
