| Ok, I am trying to learn and impress at the same time here at the job.
I am making a boot disk for a new image that we are going to be using.
I found this site for creating a boot disk.
It instructs me to format a floppy using format a: /u /s
When I try this it says that /s is an invalid parameter.
I am currently running windows 2000.
Is it possible that these instructions are for use on another OS?
Any assistance is greatly appreciated!!

| /s is not a valid parameter under NT/2000/XP for the format command. They are referencing making a DOS boot disk. The /s parameter transfers system files to the diskette making it bootable.
You will need to either have access to a DOS machine or a Windows 95 or 98 machine to make a bootable diskette, and use the format /s parameter. (Not sure about Win Me)

| Thanks Spid, that was a fast response.
I am about to start the process on one of our older laptops running W98.
|
| That 98 machine will do just fine. Have fun
Bart's is a good site, if you haven't done so already, check out his network bootdisk section.

| In order to create a boot disk under Windows 2000, you must use the makebt32.exe utility (If I remember correctly, that is the correct name of it) and that is located on the WIndows 2000 cd in a folder called bootdisk. (I believe...you will know it when you see it anyways). You need to have 4 available floppies in order to make bootable disks with this utility. When you double click on the executable, it will walk you through the process and prompt you for the other disks as needed. | |
|
| Makebt32 creates the 4 Setup bootdisks for Windows 2000. He was not asking about that. Scorpy just wanted to create a plain bootdisk. | |

| NO problem. He mentioned he was running WIndows 2000 so that's why I volunteered the information. Sorry for the misunderstanding. | |
|
| BTW - Welcome to the forum. (I forgot to mention that before ) | |

| I have squared away the boot disc.
BTW - I have been in this forum for awhile now. Thanks again.
|
| I was welcoming Jaythen. Sorry, I should have clarified.
Glad to see you got it sorted out Scorpyun.
