Hi All,
The Time of my computer on the System Tray, always show me some minutes back of the real time. I should always change the time whenever I start the computer. Why? What should I do to solve this problem? Any body know?

P.S. I have installed Windows Me, Windows XP, Windows 2000 Server and Linux (in unavailable partition from other Microsoft OS, which boot just from boot disk) on my Computer. Do you think that the problem is because of having different OS s inn one computer??!! My computer is Pentium4, 480 ROM, 40GB hard Drive…

Thank you

is this PC standalone or on a network?

if it is on a network, is it getting the time from a server?

Some time it is a standalone server and some times I setup domain controller on it and join my other Pentium 1 (win 2000 pro) computer to it. It dose not mater if it is a standalone server or a Domain Controller Server, it' time is not correct. The time is incorrect on all OS s.

Check the clock settings in your BIOS.

Agree w/rnrkenzie, your CMOS battery is probably going.

Change that. Don't forget, afterwords to go into the BIOS and redo your settings.

I changed the clock settings in my computer BIOS for 24 hours and every thing is ok as Tarzanboy tolled. Do you still think that the problem is from CMOS battery and I should Change that? My computer is new, I have got it since 5 months ago.

Why it's CMOS battery gets low? I don't have such problem with my old PC.

Thanks

The OS clock does not keep track of time properly. I notice on all Windows OS's that the OS time will usually trail the real time by a few minutes after a while. It probably has to do with the powering up and powering down of the system.

Are you using some form of VM software to run these at the same time?

Thank you all, for your help. Every think is OK. You all have A+ certification and I think I should put A+ studying at top of my other programs.

Thanks for your notes... What do you mean from "VM software"???

The simplest explanation is that VM software allows you to run multiple Operating Systems at the same time.

No, I don't use VM software. I have my multiple Operating Systems on different partitions (created by FDISK) and install them in order, first of all I installed Windows Me. Installing Linux is different from the other OS s. Also difficult was installations, as I wanted to set it near other Microsoft OS.

I have VMWare installed on my computer and I have been noticing that my desktop time is going behind some like one minute a day.
I keep fixing the time ( even though I never went to the BIOS-lazy me!)and it always start going back.
Is it that the VMWare ware is causing the problem? or fixing it from the BIOS would be the definitive solution?
Thanx

The most likely answer is the BIOS, however I have seen systems that when bogged down, usually running too many concurrent applications, lose time. Usually removing some programs from startup helped, although adding more RAM did as well.

If the system you are using is Win NT/2k/XP/2k3, you might want to take advantage of the Performance monitor and see if something is out of whack.
