| By default, Windows 2000 remote access VPN clients have the Automatic Server Type option selected. In which order do they try to establish a VPN connection? (Select one from the following).
A. First a PPTP based VPN connection, and then an L2TP over IPSec connection.
B. First a PPP based VPN connection, and then a PPTP based connection.
C. First a MS-CHAP connection, and then a PAP connection.
D. First an L2TP over IPSec based VPN connection, and then a PPTP based VPN connection.
Good luck and see you tomorrow for the answer!! (Not too hard if you know what is an authentication protocol and what is a tunneling protocol)

| Going with A on this one. | |

| Nope, it's D. Windows 2000 tries the most secure first and then works its way down when that fails.
It's always a good idea to select PPTP instead of automatic when you know you won't have any L2TP clients. It cuts down on the time required to get connected to the server.

And the answer is.....D
By default, Win2k remote access VPN clients have the automatic server type option selected, which means that they try to establish an L2TP over IPSec based VPN connection first, and then a PPTP based VPN connection. If either the PPTP or L2TP server type option is selected, you need to verify that the selected tunneling protocol is supported by the VPN server as well.
B is incorrect. PPP is not a tunneling protocol used by VPNs.
C is incorrect. MS-CHAP and PAP are authentication protocols, not tunneling protocols used by VPNs.
A is wrong because of the reasons stated in answer D.
And as Slinky stated, this is a case where it is better to not leave the default option selected. |
