| You need to research out ways to deploy the latest Service Pack to 150 users in your organization that are currently running Windows 2000 Professional. Manual installation is always an option, but it is too time consuming so you need to consider other viable deployment options.
Which of the following methods below are appropriate for automating Service Pack deployment to large groups? (Choose all that apply)
A. Windows Installer Service
B. Slipstreaming
C. Sysprep
D. SMS (Microsoft Systems Management Server)
E. None of the above
Good luck and see you tomorrow for the answer!! | |

| gonna have a guess off the top of my head, and B,C and D seem like they would be viable options... | |

| Have to go with A and D on this one. | |

| A and D from what I know of...not overwhelmingly familiar with the others | |

| A D | |
| enforcer 2003-07-08, 7:03 am |
| A for me | |

| Going with A for sure. Haven't worked with SMS before, so can't tell if D would work | |

| A, because it is essentially GPO
B, because it is integrating it with an install, which could be helpful in RIS or network installs.
C, because you are creating an image, ostensibly for deployment on multiple machines.
D, because SMS is cool like that.
Well, I'll go A and D although it could be A-D. Since the systems are already installed and running, B and C would become secondary considerations.
Cheers,

And the answers are....A and D
A - You can use the Windows Installer service to install services packs using the Update.msi package file which is included with Service Pack releases.
B - You can't use slipstreaming to automate deployment of Service Packs to exisiting Win2k computers. With slipstreaming, you eliminate the need for seperately installing Service Packs on new Win2k installations.
C - Sysprep is not used to deploy Service Packs to computers that have Windows 2000 already installed.
D - SMS provides the ability to distribute Service Packs to clients.
E - is not correct for obvious reasons.
Nice job everyone!! |
