You have a laptop computer that is not fully Plug and Play compliant running Windows 2000 Professional, and you want to modify the hardware profile. What should you do before modifying the hardware profile?

(Select the best choice from the following)

A. No preparation is required.

B. Backup the system partition and the registry, and then restart the computer.

C. Make a copy of the default profile, restart the computer, and then select and modify the copied profile.

D. Make a copy of the default profile, restart the computer, and then select and modify the default profile.

Good luck and see you tomorrow for the answer!!

I would say:

C. Make a copy of the default profile, restart the computer, and then select and modify the copied profile.

I like to be the first one to answer a QOD (when I'm here), because it's easy to pick "C" when 10 others picked that too. Replying first you have no answers to influence yours.

Well I'll say C as well then.

But at least that way if you change something on the new profile that is necessary to start the computer you know that you can always go back and use the original.

Tho I've never done this particular thing, the steps taken in 'C' are a pretty standard way of doing everything
So, c

And the answer is.....C

Best practice is not to alter the default profile created during the Windows 2000 Professional installation process. You should make a copy of the default profile and make your modifications to the copy.

After coyping the existing/default profile, you must restart the computer before you can modify the new(copied) profile. If you goal is to modify only services that are enabled or diabled for a particular hardware profile, a restart is not necessary. If the modifications made to the new hardware profile leave the operating system in an unstable state, restart the computer and select the original hardware profile. After Windows 2000 has started using the default profile, navigate to the copied profile and delete it.

Nice job everyone!!
