| Hi luisjo.
I am working on 70-210 and using Syngress as well. Is there any edition other than the 2000 edition (which is the one I am using).
I think the overall content is good but would it be sufficient for the MS test? Is it true that we must have the latest edition since they have added features and so on?

| I used MS Press and Sybex. Sybex had more understandable explanations and the review questions were very good. I found that Transcenders were ok providing you study the explanations. | |

Visited your great website and noticed that you completed your mcse cert exams in matter of days (one after the other) - 18 days in all.
Just how did you do it??? Is it some kind of learning technique or discipline you picked up in the army? Hope you don't mind sharing?

| Hi Kuek
I studied for 18 months with Computeach (distance learning) but wasn't happy. I set up a lab at home and had bags of hands on practice. For my resttlement course (6 weeks), I booked a course with theskillsgap.com (www.theskillsgap.com) in Hebden Bridge, Yorkshire, England. The personal coaching was second to none. I listened to their advice. Followed the MOC and revised using the Sybex study guides. By the time I started taking exams I was revising what I already knew.
The best advice I can give is to make sure you understand the concepts. Get plenty of sleep before the exam and make sure you read the questions properly. You will arrive at most of the answers by deciding what it cant be (deductive reasoning). Most of the guys I know that settled in the UK have managed to get IT jobs. I'm still trying. Unfortunately I settled in Delbrück North Germany. I'm working as a Security Guard at the moment but I am still hopeful and still trying to expand on my knowledge. IT brings a new meaning to the phrase (learning for life). I think the self discipline comes from my Mother and my 22 years in the Army.
A big help are the questions of the day on this Forum.

| Hi robertmiller
Thanks for the advice. There's basically no shortcuts, I guess it helps if Tech knowledge is something one enjoys learning about.
Have you ever thought of becoming an MCT? What you picked up at theskillsgap is priceless. There's like what, ½ million MCSEs (according to certcities, enough to fill up a city) and only a handfull of good Trainers. That could be a very lucrative niche area. (I can imagine you running a REAL mcse boot camp).
Have a great 2003 ahead!

| I think the latest version of the syngress books are from 2000, for me it is all you need. Study the concepts, if you can buy the ms press books it be excelent, the point of view of mspress is that you learn, and syngress is learn and pass the exam.
For mspress books get the blue ones, thats the latest edition.

The Transcender practice tests are very good. They are very difficult, and also have great explanations you can read for each question you get wrong. If you can pass the transcender exam, you will most likely pass the actual test.

| Thanks for your advice, luisjo. I think the features in the Syngress series are quite good since they contain the detailed explainations, Simulations for some of the exercises, CertCam and Drive time and so forth.
I thought that they have another edition from Syngress because other publishers have more than one editions.
I also use Mark Minasi, Mastering Windows 2000 Professional, second edn. It is quite good as well.
By the way, does anyone here have ever come accross the Redmond's products. If you do, please give me some advice.

| All...
I just downloaded some of the Cram Session PDF's for 70-210, 70-215, and 70-216 for the link below. the site is in thai, but the links to the PDF's are in english. These are awsome! These aren't braindumps like troytech or testkillers. These are simply condensed reviews of the material in the actual classes. heres the link:

| I am going to use the Sybex study guides and borrow some Transcenders for these exams. | |

| hi, today I searched whole day for the study material on 70-210 and 215. I went to B&N and local library...and online.
I'd like to get some suggestion.
I found some ppl are recommending, MS press Self-Paced Training Kit, around $140 at Amazon (ISBN: 0735617716). - I think it's lil too much $$ for me.
also Osbourne/Syngress book. But I'm not sure which Syngress book, is it "Test Yourself MCSE Windows 2000 Professional" or other book you guys are using?
also I hear Sybex is nice book as well. but do you have ISBN #? I'm not sure which Sybex book to look for.
Thanks for your help. I like to learn from beginning especially for the 70-215. any suggestion again? |
