| Has anyone used Win 2 K on a box with a celeron chip? I have a celeron 833 that I would like to set up as a test box for win2k. Can it work with a celeron? Thanks! | |

| It will work just fine!
I installed Win2000 on a Pentium 200 (just to test) and it runs.
With your 833, you should be ok.
Make sure, you got plenty of Memory.
If so, you could even install Win2000 Server on it.
I have an old dual-Pentium 300 running Win2000 Server,(512 megs of ram) as a file and FTP Server, and it has been running around 314 Days without restart.
Have at it!

| I have Win2k server running on a pentium 233mhz with 396 mb of ram. It works. It's a little slow but serves its purposes.(mainly fiddling w/ the system while I study)
an 833 celeron will have no problem.
-have a nice day | |

| You should have no probs whatsoever with your Celeron, remember not that much generally separates a Pentium form it's Celeron counterpart for day to day normal tasking.
It's only higher up the performance chart you will see a Pentium have a huge advantage.
All due to things like larger cache, higher clock speeds and bus speeds all coming into play.
Min requirements for W2000 Pro:
CPU 133Mhz Pentium-compatible
64MB
Hard Disk 650MB
Remember the above is a bare minimum and more is always merrier. | |

had it running on a dell dimension 75, although the chip was upgraded to a p120 with 64mb of memory and a 2Gb harddrive
a tad slow though | |
