I have a question maybe you guys can help me out?

I have a server that has a program that the students use in the school district on the 10.16.24.XX subnet.

I allready used up all of the ips on that subnet and I have to setup another computer lab that connects to the server.

My question is can I set up the computer lab on a different subnet that allows the computers to connect to a server on a different subnet so they can use the program?

Othe techs have tried this out before and they couldnt get this to work... But I know that there has to be a way to do this.. So can you guys help me out??

You've got a few options to pull this off.

I'm assuming your are using a 255.255.255.0 subnet mask which limits you to 254 hosts.

Why not just subnet it out to give you more hosts. For example, changing your subnet mask to 255.255.252.0 would allow you to have 1022 hosts.

Your host range would be:
10.16.24.1 to 10.16.27.254

If you don't want to do that, you could purchase a router to connect the two segments together. If you don't want to purchase a router, you could setup a Win2k server install RRAS and set that up as a router between your two network segments.

I'm sure there are other solutions as well, maybe someone else will chime in with some other ideas.

I like Spids ideas. Myself, I would add a router.

Your going to need to setup a multihomed (2 NIC) Win2k server system and then....well, check my reply out in this thread. I basically walked through the setup of RRAS here:
