| Hi there,
I can't understand these sentences, would you please help me:
[ RENEWAL: Name registrations on the WINS server do not last forever and have a "time to live" or TTL. After 1/8th of the TTL the client will attempt to refresh its name with the server. If it is unable to do this it will try again every 2 minutes until 1/2 the TTL is expired at which point it will start barking at the secondary WINS server if one is present. It will attempt to register with the secondary WINS server 4 times(every 1/8th of the TTL until half is expired). After a successful refresh it will attempt another at 1/2 TTL from there on out.]
Thank you

| asadi,
Your clients is leasing it's netBIOS name from the WIN server. After the client gets the NETBIOS name is good for the length of the lease. When the lease is near to expire. The client tries to contact the WIN server to negotiate a new lease for it's NetBIOS name, but it can't reach the WINS server at that time.
This is the proseadure of time frame on trying to reach the WINS server, as the lease is expiring.
Hope that helps. | |

| Hi mir92
Do you mean that a computer doesn't have a special netBIOS for itself?
What does it take leasing to expire possessor for a client?
Does the LMHOST do the same as the WINS server? (I mean, if a WINS-disable client wants to connect to anther WINS-disable client, does it leasing it's netBIOS name from the LMHOST?)
Thanks
