under what sircumstances would the encryption check box be grayed out?
cause this is the case for me.. and yes I am the creator/owner of the file.

Check to make sure EFS has not been disabled . If it is, you'll need to enable it.

If it is already enabled and still greyed out, I'll have to look into it further.
