Problem installing service pack 3

| I have been trying to install service pack 3 numerous times now but every time I get the following error:
Service Pack 3 setup error:
The file c:\windows\servicepackfiles\i3
86\xrxnui.dll
is open or in use by aother application
close all other applications and then click Retry.
closing all other apps does not solve this.
Any ideas?

| it's most likely a type of bug, but just in case you might want to look in the task manager and see if you can terminate any backround apps or services | |

| I already tried it after closing all programs in the background. What services should I stop?
Thanks | |

| It looks like xrxnui.dll is a print driver dll file. Here's a couple of ideas that may or may not work.
1) You can try to uninstall the printer, apply the service pack and then re-install the printer from your system.
2) You can fire up the system in Recovery Console mode and rename the dll file using the rename command and rename it to something like xrxnui.org reboot into windows and install the Service Pack.
3) You could try firing the system up in Safe Mode and renaming the .dll file, reboot the system and then try installing the service pack.
I have no idea whether these ideas will work or not, but I have had success in doing one or the other in similar situations. I would actually try #3 first, if you can't rename it in Safe Mode, then try #2, if these don't work try #1.
Good luck. | |
