MOC aka Microsoft Official Curriculum. You can get these if you take training courses from Microsoft training facilities...these are pretty expensive though. I think you are looking at about $1000 per course and you need 7 for you MCSE. If you want to go with the cheaper route, check on ebay, i have seen some people selling their binders for pretty decent prices. If you do not want to take the courses, you may want to invest in Mark Minasi's books which are less than $100 and they pretty much cover everything you need to certify yourself.

I don't suggest you use the MOC books if you plan to self study. They are more lab driven and don't cover the topics in-depth. I would suggest the MS Press Self Paced training kits for self study. They are more in-depth and the labs are very good.

I was using MOC since the NT days... And used only 2151 for the Win2K which is: "Networking Essentials". It was great and covering a lot of needed stuff in the exam.

But it's more of step and step, as to start from scratch... But I don't know about the new course books and whether they are more focused.

To reply to your Qs, YES, they are good precourses for MS courses... But if you're not buying more books then buy more recommended books; e.g.MS Press..

Good Luck

I have 2 MOC books for Windows 2000. One of them covers Basic Administration of Windows 2000 and the other covers the Network Infrastructure. We used them in my Computer Networking course in College. I found the book to be very shallow on any in-depth information compared to the MS Press books I got for MCSE. That's just my opinion.
