Which Exams To Take??

| Hi Everyone
After finishing A+ and N+. I did some thinking and decided to go for 2003 exams instead of the upgrade route. Even though companies wont be using that couple of years.
But I played around with 2000 more than 2003. It always better to get certified in the latest as there wont be that much learning curve between 2000 and 2003. Any thoughts on this ??

| Traditional advice is to do exams on what you work with or are using.
I can see you point though - why do 2K?There's certainly a lot of overlap between the two routes and why do two extra upgrade exams for 2K3?
Apart from that there are a few other things to consider:
1. 2K3 Server is still *very* new - is there even a SP for it yet?
2. There are a LOT of people out there still using NT4 server.
3. 2K Pro on the desktop is a lot more common (in my experience) than XP. In fact there's still a hell of a lot (way too many, enough already!) 9x out there.
Where I work, we do 2K for all new servers. It'll be next year before most people start getting 2K3 in a big way. Unless they *really* dig MS new 2K3 ad campaign.
What you'll come across on a day-to-day basis on the desktop is 9x, 2K, some XP boxes, sometimes a MAC ot two. And NT 4 or 2K on the server side...maybe some Novell in there too. I know it's more work (and money) in the long run but I'd advise you to go the 2K route.

| I agree what you are saying about W3K . Thats what I use at my present contract Pro on desktop and W2K on server.
But I have decided to start taking MCSE classes(Not sure about 2K or W3K) as the way my work is going . I dont get a chance to study. Since I will be paying for my classes (Why not learn the latest ) even though I use 2K at work. Hard to decide.

| Don't bother with classes!!! Passed 70-210 on saturday. Easier than I thought. Used Microsoft Press Self-Paced training kit. Got several returned lease computers from TigerDirect.com (Celeron 466, 128MB RAM, 6GB HD, keyboard & mouse). Cost $99 each (had to supply my own monitors). Set up my own lab (even bought a $20 5-port switch). I had taken the Official Microsoft course at a local college. WASTE OF TIME (and about $2000). The MOC is useless for this exam. I will NEVER take another Microsoft class again. Self-study is much better (and cheaper). Personal note: MS exam feedback SUCKS!! No feedback. Just: Congratulations, You Passed! With A+, Net+, and CNA I got feedback on weak areas even though I passed. | |
